Family Medicine

Family medicine is based on a bio-pyscho-social model that recognizes the importance of emotions and social influences as well as biology on peoples's health, wellness and illness. We treat all ages and stages of life and recognize the importance of having a family doctor to treat most problems and guide and direct specialty care as needed. We are trained to do minor surgery procedures as well as primary care. The relationship with the patient and understanding the influences that brings a person to their current situation is paramount in our approach to patient care.

Naturopathy

The core philosophy of naturopathic medicine is the belief that life has an inherent tendency towards health. Naturopathic physicians use modern science, traditional wisdom and the least force necessary to co-create, with a person, a plan that treats the cause and establishes conditions for that person to live in optimal health. Naturopathic physicians note that there is a clear difference between “normal” health and “optimal” health. Patient education and empowerment are cornerstones in creating individualized treatment plans that take into consideration a person’s preferences, abilities, and constitution. Naturopathic physicians believe that the best way to treat a disease is to prevent it from occurring in the first place and that the best way to treat a person is to look at the whole person by attending to all aspects of their health including physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being.

Doctors who practice naturopathic medicine are primary care providers who believe that communication and cooperation amongst a person’s care team is essential. They are trained in and use a wide variety of methods to aid healing including nutrition, lifestyle medicine, herbal medicine, nutraceuticals, homeopathy, pharmaceuticals and more. They prevent, diagnose and treat all acute and chronic conditions.

Internal Medicine

Internal medicine is a specialty dealing with complex medical issues, both acute and chronic. It does not focus on just one body system, but rather, the whole body functioning at its best. We take a comprehensive approach to adult medicine, understanding the whole person, their background, values, emotional state, and their personal vision of wellness. This practice also includes managing adults with addiction using MAT (medically assisted treatment).

Psychotherapy

The term psychotherapy comes from ancient Greek and means soul psyche healing therapy. Today the term often refers to talk therapy, and to addressing psychological issues. We have come to realize (or perhaps remember) that all aspects of a person are part of an indivisible whole. Physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, social, and environmental aspects intermingle and influence one another. In keeping with the holistic and integrative approach we take here at Seattle Healing Arts & the Seattle Sexual Health Center, psychotherapy is not simply about addressing psychological symptoms, but rather keeping a broad perspective on the whole person. Likewise, talk therapy is not the only approach we use, as there are also body-centered, transpersonal, behavioral, relational and socially-conscious therapies that are effective and have been developed within the field of psychology and outside of it.
